The flat shelf: charms, trading cards, a printed guide and one piece of merchandise. Nothing here is scented and none of it is plush, but this is where a collection stops being a pile of little animals and becomes an ordered set.
The cards and the guide name the cast season by season, which matters because the packaging never did. The charms are the pops cast in plastic — durable, often lit, made to hang off a zip where a soft toy would not survive. Girls used them as the trading currency of the whole line, and they are the one part you can genuinely play with outdoors. Years on, the surprise element is mostly gone from this shelf and that is the appeal: you can see what you are buying. Super cheap to store, cute on a board, and the cool, practical corner of the counter — the welcome desk, really, for a friend you already own. No magic, just answers.
These are the pieces that outlived the packs. Charms clip onto a bag the same way the dangler strings do, the cards give the characters names and rarity tiers, and the guide is the only printed index of the main run.
Pikmi characters were never printed on the packaging, so for years the only way to identify one was to compare it against someone else's photo. The Ultimate Character Guide lists them by season with the rare tiers marked, which turns a shoebox of loose plush into a collection you can actually sort.
